It was his a chance trip to Jersusalem that actually set the ball rolling for this one. That was when actor Chunky Pandey bought some souvenirs of a Church and loved them so much that he wanted to see them in person.
"And then, about a year ago when an opportunity arose to go to Moscow on a business meeting, I was thrilled to be able to do so. I was just there for 48 hours but I had a great time, especially around the monuments there," he says.
At a 15-year-old hotel
Chunky loves destinations that are steeped in history. "While I like beaches too and often go scuba diving, when I can, I must say that I prefer old structures, street architecture, the museums," he says. He stayed at one of the oldest hotels there. "It was right opposite the Red Square which is a major landmark, of course. The hotel was almost 150 years old and as charming as it got," he informs.
Forgot to bring enough warm clothes
Though he went in a cold month, he perhaps didn't estimate how cold the temperature would get. "Also I had left in a hurry and I forgot to take more warm clothes, woollies and the cold was just beginning to set there," he recalls. But that also added to the beauty of the place. "The complete look of the place with the change in season just taking off is lovely! You have many Indians and Bangladeshis there; some of them recognised me," he says.
Sightseeing
Since he was there for a short while, Chunky made sure he saw most of the landmarks. "I went to Lenin's Grave, as well as the Red Square churches. I also saw the Cathedral. Chunky admits he was spellbound when he saw the Cathedral. I was freaked out actually. The way the domes are built, its ambience, it leaves you speechless," he says.
Conned by a taxi driver
Chunky made sure her went past the KGB Headquarters (Lubyanka now) to have a look. "It was quick but I managed to look at it," reveals the actor. He also had an experience he won't forget. "I was conned by my taxi driver; I had taken a cab to go up to a place half a kilometer away. I didn't know where it was and my driver kept driving me in circles for some time before finally dropping me at my destination and charging me 100 dollars for this!" he remarks.
