The 2012MY Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster

AMG is presenting a new dream-car: the 2012MY SLS AMG Roadster. This super sports car thrills with a perfect combination of open-top driving pleasure, outstanding driving dynamics and sophisticated lightweight construction. The 2012 SLS AMG Roadster will make its U.S. debut in Fall 2011.

The technological highlights of the 2012 SLS AMG Roadster include an aluminum spaceframe body, an AMG 6.3-liter V8 front-mid engine with dry sump lubrication developing a peak output of 563 hp and 479 pound-feet of torque, a seven-speed dual clutch transaxle transmission and a sports suspension with aluminum double wishbones ? all of which will raise the pulse of sports car enthusiasts while providing outstanding driving dynamics and driving pleasure.

The compact fabric soft top of the SLS AMG Roadster opens and closes in just eleven seconds, and can be operated on the move at speeds up to 31 mph. The new Adaptive AMG Sport Suspension with electronically controlled damping is available as an attractive optional extra. It enables the damping characteristics to be modified at the touch of a button. Using the AMG DRIVE UNIT, the driver of the SLS AMG Roadster is therefore able to choose his own suspension setup. Three modes are available: "Comfort", "Sport" and "Sport plus".

"AMG Performance Media" is a unique new feature: this innovative, motorsport-inspired multimedia system offers an unrivalled combination of numerous telemetric displays such as lateral and linear acceleration, various engine data and lap times on a racetrack.

Dr Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and CEO of Mercedes-Benz Cars: "The SLS Roadster is a super sports car, cruiser and highly desirable dream-car all in one. In its distinctive way, it continues the succession of iconic and exciting sports cars from Mercedes-Benz."

Ola K?llenius, Chairman of Mercedes-AMG GmbH: "Systematic lightweight construction, outstanding performance and a breathtaking design combined with sensuous open-air driving pleasure ? the new SLS AMG Roadster perfectly embodies the AMG philosophy of German engineering and craftsmanship. The gullwing model has already thrilled sports car fans all over the world, and now the convertible version is bound to cause a sensation."

Pure roadster design with perfect proportions

The new Roadster adds a second exciting dream-car to the SLS AMG family. Head of Design at Mercedes-Benz, Gorden Wagener: "As in the gullwing model, the pure, athletic design immediately catches the eye. Whether with the roof open or closed, the SLS AMG Roadster is an impressive visual delight!" The perfect proportions are particularly memorable: a long hood, the greenhouse positioned well to the rear and a short rear end. Plus the automatically extending rear wing, long wheelbase, wide track and short overhangs ? in short, the convertible SLS AMG exudes effortless performance and an authentic charisma. The pronounced shoulder sections are reminiscent of tensed muscles, and suggest sheer power in combination with the large wheels ? 265/35 ZR 19 (front) and 295/30 ZR 20 (rear). The attractive AMG Sepang brown metallic paint finish and weight-optimized forged wheels in a 10-spoke design, painted in matte black with a high-sheen rim flange, are available as new optional extras.

Features reminiscent of the 300 SL Roadster, the classic dream-car from the 1950s, include not only the wide radiator grille with its large Mercedes star and the wing-shaped cross-fin, but also the fins on the hood and on the vehicle sides. Like the SLS AMG Roadster, the 300 SL Roadster appeared slightly later than the original gullwing 300 SL, but unlike the SL's both AMG dream cars are available at the same time.

Interior atmosphere like an aircraft cockpit

The interior continues the breathtaking design idiom of the exterior, and awakens associations with an aircraft cockpit: prominent features include the dashboard in the shape of a wing and the air vents with adjustable, cruciform nozzles reminiscent of jet engines. The extended center console of matte, solid metal and the new E-SELECT lever in the shape of an aircraft's thrust control are also design features adopted from the world of aviation. Another discreet, fine detail is the embossed AMG emblem on the leather-lined selector lever.

The AMG DRIVE UNIT ? which like numerous other interior features is available in genuine carbon-fiber ? is the central control unit in the center console: it allows the driver to choose a personal vehicle setup, including adjustment of the optional Adaptive AMG Sport Suspension. The AMG Performance steering wheel with its high-grade premium leather lining and flattened bottom rim section provides perfect vehicle control. The shift paddles and lower steering wheel bezel are made of solid metal.

Fully automatic, weight-optimized soft top

The sensual experience in the 2012MY SLS AMG Roadster is further enhanced when the soft top is open, and the powerful, naturally aspirated eight-cylinder engine with 563 hp and 479 pound-feet of torque asserts itself and makes the heart beat faster with its distinctive AMG eight-cylinder sound. The fabric soft top can be opened and closed while on the move at speeds up to 31 mph; the fully automatic opening/closing process takes only eleven seconds. The driver only needs to operate the roof control unit conveniently integrated at the front of the center armrest. When open, the soft top is space-savingly retracted behind the seats in a folded Z-configuration. Three soft top colors ? black, red and beige ? are available to suit the nine exterior and eight interior colors.

The three-layered fabric soft top is a weight-optimized magnesium/steel/aluminum construction, and contributes greatly to the car's low center of gravity. The soft top has a seamlessly bonded rear window of heated singlelayer safety glass. The flush, gap-free transition between the outer roof skin and the rear window keeps wind noise low. A continuous, flexible water pocket running under the soft top catches rainwater and directs it to the underbody via two apertures on each side. The trunk capacity is 6.1 cubic feet with the roof either open or closed, and therefore roughly equal to that of the SLS AMG Coup? (6.2 cubic feet).

Outstanding material quality and finish

The finest leather, matte-finished solid metal or optional, genuine carbon-fiber trim create an exclusive ambience and correspond with the authentic feel of the cockpit. Precisely executed decorative and contrasting stitching enhances the visual impression, heightens the hand crafted look and reflects the attention to detail which is the hallmark of Mercedes design.

The standard appointments of the SLS AMG Roadster include black designo leather, heated AMG sports seats, a detachable glass windstop, COMAND with Navigation and DVD player, anti-theft alarm system with tow-away protection and interior monitoring, dual-zone automatic climate control and the KEYLESSGO starting function. The standard AIRSCARF? system exclusive to Mercedes- Benz acts like an invisible scarf warming the head and neck areas of the occupants. It is integrated into the backrests of the AMG sports seats, and blows warm air from vents in the head restraints. The airflow can be adapted for different occupant sizes by means of adjustable louvers, and the level of warmth can be selected in three stages at the touch of a button.

Leather-lined roll-over bars with integrated mesh in a "Silver Shadow" look are available in conjunction with designo Exclusive leather to reduce turbulence in the cockpit. Ambient lighting is integrated into the electrically folding exterior mirrors. Single-tone or two-tone designo leather in espresso brown is available as a new interior color ? this dark shade of brown perfectly matches the new metallic paint finish AMG Sepang brown.

AMG Performance Media and Bang & Olufsen as optional highlights

In addition to the Bang & Olufsen BeoSound AMG surround sound system, another optional entertainment highlight is the AMG Performance Media. In an unprecedented way, this racing-inspired system combines numerous telemetric displays such as engine data, lateral and linear acceleration and lap times on a racetrack. AMG Performance Media is activated by pressing the AMG key in the AMG DRIVE UNIT, and operated using the COMAND Controller. Key functions at a glance:

Real-time display of engine oil, coolant and transmission fluid temperature Real-time display of engine output, torque and accelerator position Real-time display of individual tire pressures Real-time display of acceleration time from 0-60 mph (alternatively: quarter-mile) Real-time display of lateral and linear acceleration combined with braking performance and accelerator position, including memory function Recording of individual lap times on a closed racetrack, with sector times and memory function Integration of DRIVE UNIT functions to save setup data to memory and initiate RACE START

The different functions of AMG Performance Media are shown by the color display integrated into the dashboard. Three displays are shown at any one time, with the most important information positioned in the center. Digitally simulated dial instruments with red needles ensure outstanding legibility.

Specifically reinforced aluminum spaceframe, low curb weight

In addition to maximum comfort, the key factor for driving pleasure in the new SLS AMG Roadster is the outstanding performance. The basis for this is the innovative body design: the chassis and body are made of aluminum, a design combining intelligent lightweight construction with high strength. With a curb weight of 3,661 pounds (estimated), the Roadster is only 88 pounds heavier than the Coup?. The result is a remarkable power-to-weight ratio of 6.5 pounds per hp.

To achieve the same level of driving dynamics ? without a fixed roof, the SLS AMG Roadster incorporates several features specifically designed to strengthen the bodyshell, including side skirts with greater wall thicknesses and additional chambers. The dashboard cross member is supported against the windshield frame and center tunnel by additional struts, and a curved strut between the soft top and the tank reinforces the rear axle. The lack of a roof and gullwing doors means that the open-top SLS AMG has a reinforcing crossmember behind the seats to support the fixed roll-over protection system. This also accommodates the 250 watt subwoofer of the Bang & Olufsen BeoSound AMG high-end sound system.

All this prevents unwanted vibrations right from the start, and makes it unnecessary to use the additional, weight-increasing vibration dampers that are often found in open-top sports cars. The weight-optimized aluminum spaceframe weighs 536 pounds, tipping the scales at just 4.5 pounds more than the gullwing model.

Intelligent material mix and low center of gravity

50 percent of the intelligently designed, weight-optimized aluminum spaceframe is made of aluminum sections, 26 percent of sheet aluminum, 18 percent of cast aluminum and 6 percent of steel. Maximum occupant safety requires the use of ultra-high-strength, heat-formed steel in the A-pillars.

The entire vehicle has been designed to achieve the lowest possible center of gravity. This applies both to the low connection points of the powertrain and axles, as well as to the arrangement of the rigid bodyshell structure, which has been kept as low as possible. Examples include the rigid flexural and torsional connections between the front and rear section and the passenger safety cell, which have been designed to use force paths that are as low as possible.

2012 Mercezes-Benz C63 AMG Coupe Black Series

Source: Mercedes-Benz

The new C63 AMG Coup? Black Series

MONTVALE, NJ ? Spectacular design, technology transferred from the world of motorsport and the very best in driving dynamics; the new 2012 Mercedes- Benz C63 AMG Coupe Black Series represents the new AMG brand claim, Driving Performance, like no other AMG model. The new high-performance vehicle is the most powerful C-Class of all time, boasting a maximum output of 510 hp and a maximum torque of 457 lb-ft. The high-revving AMG 6.3-liter V8 engine delivers stunning pulling power and exceptional performance - the 2012 C63 AMG Coupe Black Series accelerates from zero to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds (all data provisional).

The driving experience is further enhanced by the adjustable AMG coil-over sports suspension, AMG high-performance composite (two-piece) braking system and superb functionality of the standard equipment. The AMG Track package with ultra high-performance tires and active cooling for the rear axle drive unit is available as an option for even better dynamics, while the AMG Aerodynamics package includes exterior winglets and an adjustable carbon- fiber rear spoiler.

Wide, low-slung, muscular and ready to pounce ? the 2012 C63 AMG Coupe Black Series cuts an impressive figure. From the very first glance, it is abundantly clear that the C63 AMG Coupe Black Series is made for spirited driving on a closed track. Visually reminiscent of the SLS AMG GT3 customer race car, the new high-performance vehicle stands clearly for technology adopted from motorsport ? something that has been a core philosophy of Mercedes-AMG GmbH for 44 years.

With its new C63 AMG Coupe Black Series, AMG is presenting an exciting sports car for enthusiasts with a passion for performance cars that are big on horsepower ? it also marks the impressive continuation of the Black Series strategy, which began back in 2006. AMG, the performance brand of Mercedes-Benz Cars, is once again showcasing its expertise in the design and development of emotion-packed, high-performance cars.

"AMG has its roots in international motorsport. The new C63 AMG Coupe Black Series showcases the ongoing transfer of technology from the race track to the road. Great success in the DTM, the customer sport program featuring the SLS AMG GT3 and our commitment to Formula 1, where we have been providing the Official F1TM Safety Car and the Official F1TM Medical Car for the past 15 years, are an ongoing source of inspiration for our engineers and technicians. The C63 AMG Coupe Black Series embodies the new AMG brand claim, Driving Performance, like no other AMG model", comments Ola K?llenius, CEO of Mercedes-AMG GmbH.

Whichever way you look at it, the new C63 AMG Coupe Black Series proudly displays its motorsports ties. The arrow-shaped front end with the central Mercedes star in the radiator grille is the visual expression of its forceful forward thrust. The air intakes in the distinctive front valance direct a continuous air flow through the large cooling modules, while two openings in the aluminum hood aid the outflow of heat from the engine. The angled struts in the front skirt emphasize the vehicle's width and the black front splitter beneath provides aerodynamic balance.

The distinctive design continues through to the side view. The newly developed front axle with wider track is accommodated by new fenders, extended by 2.2- inches. "6.3" badges indicate the sheer power of the large-displacement, eight- cylinder, high-revving, naturally aspirated engine beneath the hood. The impression of air outlets behind the wheel arches is evocative of powerful racing cars, while the newly designed AMG sills bear black trim elements that continue the visual of the front splitter. The rear fenders have also been widened by 3.3- inches to house the track of the rear axle. Virtual air vents ahead of the rear wheels complete the picture.

AMG alloy wheels featuring lightweight forging technology

Mighty 255/35 R 19 and 285/30 R 19 wheels grace the C63 AMG Coupe Black Series at market launch. Mounted on 9 x 19 (front) and 9.5 x 19 (rear) AMG alloys, the wheel/tire combination fills out the fenders to stunning effect and has a significant impact on the dynamic appearance of this new AMG sports car.

Painted in titanium gray, the polished alloy wheels are made using extremely lightweight forging technology ? as on the SLS AMG. Compared with conventional wheels, these forged wheels are a total of 24.2 pounds lighter overall. The lower weight results in reduced unsprung masses, which improves both suspension characteristics and steering precision.

Broad rear end with diffuser insert

The rear of the Black Series coupe also underlines its performance potential. The new rear valance with its distinctive black diffuser insert creates visual breadth. Similar to the SLS AMG GT3, it extends beyond the profile of the rear valance. The black mesh on the upper edge of the diffuser insert is just as much of an eye- catcher as the AMG sports exhaust. Both of the chromed twin tailpipes integrated into the rear valance feature an angular cross-section. The spoiler lip on the trunk lid is painted in body color and reduces lift at the rear axle, resulting in greater stability at high speeds. The AMG logo with its discreet "Black Series" lettering is reserved exclusively for the C63 AMG Coupe Black Series.

Engine with high-tech components from SLS AMG

A displacement of 6.3 liters, a maximum output of 510 hp and torque of 457 lb-ft from eight cylinders ? one glance at the technical data and it's clear that the technology behind the C63 AMG Coupe Black Series is every bit a match for its sensational appearance. The high-torque M156 naturally aspirated engine was fine-tuned specifically for the new two-door model. Its forged pistons, connecting rods and lightweight crankshaft all come directly from the SLS AMG and are complemented by a new engine control unit. As a result, the sprint from 0 to 60 mph takes just 4.2 seconds (all data preliminary).

High revving, agile road manners and phenomenal pulling power ? the qualities of the large-displacement AMG high-speed naturally aspirated engine are every driver's dream. The jewel in the crown is the inspiring AMG eight-cylinder sound from the AMG sports exhaust system.

The optimized engine oil cooling delivers more performance even under harsh race-track conditions. With the aid of components from the SLS AMG, engineers added 50 percent to the cooling surface of the oil cooler. Power transmission is handled by the highly acclaimed, innovative AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports gearbox. Four transmission modes, the rev-matching function and RACE START deliver maximum driving fun and a high degree of versatility. In the "Sport plus" and "Manual" modes gear shift takes a mere 100 milliseconds.

AMG coil-over sports suspension with an AMG rear-axle differential lock

The AMG sports suspension is a sophisticated new development. Conceived as a coil-over suspension -- as is the norm in motorsport and a typical feature of Black Series models -- it offers a range of setting options, and allows the driver to create an individual set-up. Track has been widened by 1.57 inches (front) and 3.11 inches (rear). In conjunction with modified anti-roll bars, the C63 AMG Coupe Black Series delivers impressive dynamics, tenacious grip and minimal body roll. The AMG speed-sensitive sports steering facilitates superb vehicle control, with modified mapping of the power assistance for maximum steering precision.

The AMG rear-axle differential lock is standard equipment and responsible for reliable traction, especially under race track conditions. The 3-phase ESP? is the ideal solution for all driving situations - using the ESP? button, the driver can choose from "ESP ON", "Sport Handling Mode" and "ESP OFF". As a result of the increased dynamics the AMG high-performance brake system and the anti-lock functionality was reprogrammed. The larger braking system features discs with race-proven composite (two-piece) technology at the front (15.35 x 1.42 inches) and integral discs at the rear (14.17 x 1.02 inches). Red-painted six-piston fixed calipers at the front and four-piston fixed calipers at the rear provide reliable stopping power to the perforated, fade-resistant rotors, which are ventilated at all four corners.

Interior with a functional motorsport atmosphere

The inspiring high-tech components and the spectacular exterior design both find their logical continuation in the interior of the C63 AMG Coupe Black Series. Finished in black with red accents, the interior of the C63 AMG Coupe Black Series displays the functional atmosphere of a true race car combined with outstanding quality and meticulously crafted details. Two AMG sport seats provide the best levels of lateral support and thus optimum vehicle control on the race track. The black DINAMICA microfiber upholstery on the center panels of the seats and doors is a new type of synthetic fiber characterized by its high fade resistance. The omission of the rear bench underlines the vehicle's sporty character and reduces its weight. The C63 AMG Coupe Black Series is also available as a four-seater incorporating the AMG sports seats familiar from the C63 AMG Coupe, with individual seats for the rear.

The AMG performance steering wheel in nappa leather/DINAMICA microfiber with its rim flattened top and bottom features aluminum shift paddles for manual gear shifting. Red seat belts and red contrasting topstitching on the steering wheel, seats, door trim, door armrests, center console and shift lever add eye-catching accents. An exclusive "Black Series" logo adorns the trim on the dashboard, which is finished in high-gloss black piano lacquer. The dashboard with separate dials has a three-dimensional TFT color screen, which displays the AMG logo when the vehicle door is opened. Integrated into the AMG main menu are display options for engine oil temperature, ESP? mode and gear selection. The rotary control for the C, S, S+ and M transmission modes and RACE START is located on the center console next to the selector lever, which is finished in DINAMICA microfiber.

The C63 AMG Coupe Black Series is clear proof that outstanding dynamics and excellent active and passive safety need not be mutually exclusive. Airbags, belt tensioners and belt-force limiters for all seats are part of the standard equipment, as are the ABS anti-lock braking system, the 3-stage ESP?, the tire pressure monitoring system and electronic cruise control.

AMG Track package and AMG Aerodynamics package

AMG has two special packages to offer for even further enhanced dynamics. The AMG Track package comprises 255/35 R 19 front and 285/30 R 19 rear sports tires from Dunlop. They were developed exclusively for the C63 AMG Coup? Black Series and dramatically increase grip. Active cooling on the rear-axle drive unit improves performance under tough race-track conditions. Its cooling module is located in front of the diffuser insert in the rear valance for optimum airflow.

The AMG Aerodynamics package includes exterior winglets made from genuine carbon-fiber on the front valance. There is also a fixed carbon-fiber spoiler at the rear with adjustable aerofoil. Both components not only increase the downforce at the front and rear axle, they also optimize the vehicle's aerodynamic balance.

Four stunning Black Series models since 2006

Despite its race track dynamics, the new C63 AMG Coupe Black Series offers all the characteristics of a true Mercedes-Benz ? everyday drivability, durability, safety and quality.

The most powerful C-Class of all time is the fourth Black Series model to be launched since 2006. The first one was the SLK55 AMG Black Series (not offered in the U.S.). The AMG 5.5-liter V8 engine in the thoroughbred two-seater boasted a maximum output of 400 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. Just 120 units were produced between between July 2006 and April 2007. The CLK63 AMG Black Series followed directly in its footsteps. The two-seater coupe was powered by an AMG 6.3-liter V8 engine with 500 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque. Just 700 units of this very exclusive model were built between April 2007 and March 2008.

The highlight until now was the SL65 AMG Black Series, unveiled in July 2008. The high-performance coupe remains an attention grabber to this day with its spectacular appearance, unique performance data, lightweight design and high- end exclusivity. The AMG 6.0-liter V12 biturbo engine with a maximum output of 661 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque made the SL65 AMG Black Series the most powerful AMG vehicle ever to enter series production. A total of 350 units were built from September 2008 through August 2009.

The C63 AMG Coupe Black Series celebrates its world premiere at the Formula 1 German Grand Prix on the N?rburgring (July 23 ? 24, 2011). U.S. market launch will follow in early 2012.

Aston Martin unveils new V12 Zagato

? In 50th anniversary year of the iconic DB4GT Zagato, Aston Martin introduces a modern interpretation of the famous Aston Martin and Zagato collaboration ? New V12 Zagato concept to be premiered at the Villa D?Este Concours on 21st May to gauge customer interest ? The V12 Zagato will appear in the form of an endurance race car to compete at the N?rburgring 24 hour race on 25/26 June; following tradition of recent new Aston Martins

Gaydon / Lake Como, 20 May 2011. Aston Martin will unveil the stunning new V12 Zagato endurance racer concept on the shores of Lake Como, Italy at the Villa D?Este Concours tomorrow.

Reviving a collaboration which has produced some of the most beautiful and sought-after cars in the world, the partnership takes inspiration from the past, to create a modern descendent of classics such as the DB4GT Zagato, V8 Vantage Zagato and DB7 Zagato based on Aston Martin?s ultimate performance interpretation of the Vantage range: the V12 Vantage.

Dr Ulrich Bez, CEO of Aston Martin said: ?The Zagato design language is a perfect complement to our design and engineering expertise. After 50 years of the two companies being associated with each other the partnership has produced some of the world?s most iconic cars.?

?Of course, fifty years ago Italian design houses were widely seen as leading the way with new designs but now and supported by our independency, Aston Martin has its own in-house design ability so this new venture with Zagato is more collaborative than it perhaps would have been in the past.?

?The task for us has been to create a concept that is a natural successor to those iconic cars that have gone before. Matching the technology of the age with the traditional skills vital to deliver such a bespoke and exclusive sports car will lead to a strictly limited run of road going V12 Zagatos.?

Work began in 2010 with initial meetings between Aston Martin and Zagato where sketches incorporating the design DNA of both companies were discussed and a decision was made to proceed with the project.

Director of Design, Marek Reichman added: ?The Design team at Gaydon spent time refining the concept using a mixture of the latest computer based modelling techniques along with crafting traditional clay models to give a real world idea of proportion, stance and detail?

?The V12 Zagato is an elegant yet brutal design which reflects the great balance between race performance and pure Aston Martin style. The original DB4GT Zagato was a true icon, powerful and graceful; the new design is a true representation of the spirit of DB4GT Zagato. The muscular organic forms define the thoroughbred nature of the car?s racing credentials.?

Working alongside the initial design team was a dedicated group of Aston Martin engineers led by Chris Porritt ? previously responsible for the engineering of the One-77. With the skills and knowledge gained from such specialised projects this team has worked to bring the unique design of the V12 Zagato to reality in a very short period of time.

Featuring a new handcrafted aluminium body, the V12 Zagato delivers a beautiful and muscular design not possible using pre-formed panel techniques. Using the influences and skill of nearly 100 years of heritage in the craft, every aluminium panel was formed using an English wheel and traditionally crafted body bucks. Each front wing alone comprises seven separate pieces of aluminium, combined and then hand finished to give one flowing form. Another iconic Zagato design cue is the double bubble roof created in this case from five separate pieces illustrating further the intensity of craftsmanship involved in the construction of the V12 Zagato.

Designed for the focused driver, the V12 Zagato has been honed with pure driving enjoyment in mind. The V12 Zagato combines Aston Martin?s most dynamic bonded aluminium platform with the power of the 6.0-litre V12 engine producing 510 bhp (380 kW / 517 PS), and 570 Nm (420 lb ft) of torque.

The V12 Vantage which forms the basis of the V12 Zagato has been proven on the race track as early as 2009 with a class win in its debut race at the 24 hour race at N?rburgring whilst being close to production standard with only essential safety modifications, reduced weight and re-tuned suspension but no additional aerodynamic enhancements. In 2011 the car has gone on to form the basis of the new Aston Martin GT3 race car unveiled last month.

The first DB4GT Zagato shown to the public in late 1960 spent much of its life as a racing car after launch. Later perhaps the two most famous DB4GT Zagatos, registered ?1 VEV? and ?2 VEV? were raced with success by such names as Jim Clark and Roy Salvadori. The fascinating story of these cars and the nature of high performance and low weight which drove the Zagato projects gave the inspiration for the first two V12 Zagatos to be created as endurance race cars.

The racing debut of the V12 Zagato will be at the four hour VLN race at N?rburgring on 28th May with a view to two cars racing at the 24 hour race on 25/26 June. The cars will be driven by a team with great experience of Aston Martin race cars, led for the sixth year by Chief Executive Dr. Ulrich Bez.

Both cars follow Aston Martin?s philosophy of racing in close-to-production form but with full FIA safety compliance. V12 Vantage Zagato specification includes a bonded aluminium platform modified with a bespoke steel roll cage, front and rear double wishbone suspension with fully adjustable Multimatic DSSV Dampers and a 120ltr endurance racing fuel tank.

The Aston Martin V12 Zagato will be shown for the first time at the Villa D?Este Concours on Saturday 21st May 2011

- Ends ?

ZL1: Chevrolet Camaro Enters The Realm Of Advanced Performance Technology

2011-02-09

* LSA 6.2L supercharged engine will produce an estimated 550 horsepower (410 kW) and is matched with a six-speed manual transmission with a dual-disc clutch system * Packed with performance technologies, highlighted by Magnetic Ride Control, and advanced materials ? including a vented carbon fiber hood insert. Extensive aerodynamic development designed for high-performance driving * Development ongoing, targeting launch at the beginning of 2012

CHICAGO ? The 2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 debuted today at the Chicago Auto Show. It is the highest-performing Camaro and the most technically advanced car ever developed in its class. The new ZL1 continues the momentum of Camaro, propelling it into an entirely new realm of leading-edge performance technology. It is planned to launch at the beginning of 2012.

Motivated by a supercharged V-8 engine producing an estimated 550 horsepower (410 kW), the Camaro ZL1 will be the fastest Camaro ever offered by Chevrolet. And more than just power, the ZL1 features technologically advanced and highly developed chassis and suspension systems that help it deliver balanced, track-ready handling and braking power to complement its high engine output. Rigorous development of the ZL1 is ongoing, and official estimates of the car's capabilities will be released later in 2011, as testing nears completion.

"Camaro ZL1 is about high-tech performance and design, and is a type of car no one has ever brought to this segment previously," said Rick Scheidt, vice president of Chevrolet marketing. "It's the most technically advanced Camaro ever, so we've chosen a name from the most elite and exclusive Camaro in history."

The ZL1 name is derived from the all-aluminum racing engine of the same name, which was developed in the late 1960s and installed into a handful of regular-production 1969 Camaros. Only 69 were built with the engine, but they've achieved mythical status among enthusiasts, as they represented the pinnacle in Camaro performance ? until now. The 2012 ZL1 model is designed to be a major leap forward for the Camaro, bringing a new level of performance capability to the segment.

The central goal of the car's development was creating something new ? a Camaro intended to reach optimal lap times on top road-racing circuits and excellent driving dynamics on the street. To achieve that goal, engineers evolved many of the existing Camaro's systems, as well as incorporated new technologies such as electric power steering and Magnetic Ride Control, the world's fastest-reacting suspension system.

Camaro ZL1's design communicates and supports its performance mission. Rather than using decorative elements, ZL1 is visually differentiated from other current Camaro models with elements vital to the car's elevated capabilities.

"Everything about the ZL1's design is directly related to its technology and serious performance, especially aerodynamics," said Ed Welburn, vice president, Global Design. "Our designers' goal was to execute that function-oriented design with beautifully sculpted forms, creating an imposing, powerful persona. Function becomes the aesthetic. The intent is a car that delivers on the attitude it projects."

Major elements of the ZL1's design are a new front fascia and hood with air extractors, designed in tandem to create aerodynamic downforce to aid handling. The car's hood includes a signature center section constructed of carbon fiber and rendered in satin black finish. New rocker panels, wide tires, 20-inch wheels and exhaust tips portray the car's handling and power. The ZL1 badge appears on the grille, hood and the brake calipers, all key areas portraying the technology within.

Tech overview Supporting the dynamic track and street performance of the ZL1 is the LSA 6.2L supercharged engine, which will produce an estimated 550 horsepower (410kW) and 550 lb.-ft. of torque (677 Nm), with specific features for the Camaro. Built on GM's legendary all-aluminum, small-block V-8 architecture, the LSA features an intercooled supercharger system, premium heat-resistant aluminum-alloy cylinder heads and other details designed to ensure its exceptional performance is delivered with smoothness and refinement. Components and design elements that contribute to the LSA's performance include:

* Balanced, lightweight reciprocating assembly * High-strength hypereutectic pistons * Sixth-generation Eaton supercharger with four-lobe rotors * Piston oil squirters.

Because the Camaro ZL1 uses electric power steering, the engine does not incorporate a conventional hydraulic power steering pump on its accessory drive system. This enhances performance, because no engine power is used to turn a steering pump pulley. Camaro ZL1 is a complete high-performance car, not just a Camaro with more power. Key technical highlights include:

Transmission ? The high-performance Tremec TR-6060 six-speed manual is matched with the LSA engine. It is the "MG9" version of the transmission, with a higher torque capacity. It is used with a dual-mass flywheel and twin-disc clutch for easy operation and shift smoothness. A new, shorter-throw shifter actuates the gear changes.

Exhaust ? ZL1 is equipped with a dual-mode exhaust system, which alters the sound level and character in response to engine rpm. First used on the legendary Corvette, and specifically tuned for Camaro ZL1, the dual-mode exhaust will give the car a signature sound.

Drivetrain ? It is revised with a stronger driveshaft and rear axle system, featuring a larger and stronger cast iron differential housing, stronger axles and heavy-duty limited-slip differential. This patent-pending system is designed to ensure that ZL1's tremendous power is delivered smoothly to the ground.

Suspension ? The suspension features completely revised tuning and the inclusion of segment-exclusive Magnetic Ride Control. ZL1's Magnetic Ride system will include driver selectable modes (Tour and Sport) tailored for the preferred style of driving. It uses advanced magneto-rheological science to produce shock damping with the highest level of precision, enabling body control optimized for excellent performance in everyday driving as well as track situations. This technology appears on only a small roster of some of the world's finest performance cars. Other chassis elements are redesigned to support the car's high-performance limits. Rear stabilizer bars have drop links repositioned outboard of the control arms. This makes the bars more effective in controlling body roll in turns, with crisp response to driver commands.

Brakes and Steering ? Camaro ZL1 features an advanced track-capable braking system, developed in conjunction with experts from Brembo. The large 14.6-inch (370 mm) two-piece front rotors have six-piston calipers; the 14.4-inch (365 mm) rear rotors have four-piston calipers. ZL1 marks the entry of a new electric power steering system to Camaro. It is being developed to ensure precise control and feedback to the driver, with greater variability of effort for high-performance driving.

Exterior ? ZL1's signature from the front is the redesigned fascia and aluminum hood with a raised, carbon fiber insert. The fascia includes a front splitter and new vertical fog lamps. The fog lamp area includes air intakes designed for brake cooling. The hood features front-mounted air extractors that direct air precisely over the car. Visually, this center section, in satin black carbon fiber, communicates the car's high-performance intent as a visual contrast to the car's exterior color. Functionally, the air extractor is a key in connecting airflow closely to the bodywork, creating aerodynamic downforce. The carbon fiber center section reduces the mass of the hood. High-intensity discharge (HID) headlamps and fog lamps are standard. The rear of the car includes a diffuser and spoiler, also functional elements that enhance the car's aerodynamics.

Wheels and Tires ? New-design, 20-inch forged aluminum wheels, which are lighter than the 20-inch wheels used on the Camaro SS, are used with new Goodyear Supercar F2 ties developed specifically for the ZL1.

Interior ? ZL1 is tailored for high-performance driving. The front seats feature microfiber suede inserts. Other enhancements include a redesigned steering wheel, alloy pedals, Head-Up Display with unique performance readouts and the "four-pack" auxiliary gauge system featuring a boost readout.

Production details All of the Camaro exterior colors will be offered with the ZL1, but black is the only interior color. The unique exterior features are complemented with a black center section on the hood. Inside, the Camaro ZL1 has heated leather seats with microfiber inserts and ZL1 logos embroidered on the front headrests. Microfiber suede is repeated as an accent on the instrument panel, adding a richer look to the interior. The ZL1 will include the same content as the current 2SS package and include the following new or unique features:

* Six-way power driver and passenger seats * Unique instrument panel and door panel inserts; and ZL1-logo sill plates * Steering wheel audio controls with Bluetooth capability * Wireless PDIM and USB-port * Boston Acoustics premium audio system * Rear parking assist * Rear camera system (displayed in the inside rearview mirror).

Engineers have already driven Camaro ZL1 prototypes extensively at demanding road courses in the U.S. and Germany, with final testing being completed through the balance of 2011.

Unique character, individual design, hallmark MINI design language. The MINI Coupe brings a fascinatingly unique character to its market segment and the MINI model family alike. Its body design is based on a faithful interpretation of MINI design and places a clear emphasis on the brand's sporting genes. Plus, it features a number of eye-catching individual touches which amount to rather more than model-specific details.

At the same time, though, the Coupe remains unmistakably a MINI. A combination of taut, athletic surfaces, harmonious curves and parallel lines confirms the allegiance of its design language to the cornerstones of MINI design. Indeed, the appearance of the MINI Coupe is also defined by its powerful over-the-wheel stance. And then there are unique design features exclusive to MINI, such as the hexagonal contours of the radiator grille, the black border around the lower part of the body, a host of chrome strips and surrounds and the large circular headlights with integrated direction indicators.

The headlights, like the vertically stacked rear lights positioned on the outer extremes of the rear end, are integrated like "islands" into the body. The positioning lights and foglamps located in the front apron and the surrounds of the side indicators on the front side panels are among the design elements whose origins can be traced back to the classic Mini of the 1950s.

However, the Coupe also breaks the mould ? as the first MINI to adopt a three-box body structure. Unlike the MINI, the MINI Clubman and the MINI Convertible, the MINI Coupe is divided into three distinct segments: engine compartment, passenger compartment and boot. This structure broadens the MINI Coupe's spectrum of geometric forms and helps to create a classic and very distinctive Gran Turismo-style rear end, particularly when viewed from the side.

The exterior dimensions of the MINI Coupe give it very sporty proportions and a low, forward-thrusting profile. The two-seater measures 146.8 inches in length (MINI Cooper S Coupe, MINI John Cooper Works Coupe: 147 inches), 66.3 inches in width and 54.6 inches in height (MINI Cooper S Coupe, MINI John Cooper Works Coupe: 54.5 inches). In other words, while the overall length, width and wheelbase (97.1 inches) are almost identical to the measurements of the MINI, the car's overall height sits a full inch lower than MINI Hardtop.

Distinctive roof form; steeply raked A-pillars, integrated roof spoiler and active rear spoiler optimize aerodynamics. The clear horizontal structuring of the Coupe into three distinct tiers ? the body, the wrap-around glass surfaces and the strikingly superimposed roof ? is also a typical MINI hallmark. The rearward tapering greenhouse and flat side windows and, most prominently, the innovative "helmet roof" give the MINI Coupe a distinctive appearance from every angle.

To improve airflow at higher speeds, the MINI Coupe is the first ever MINI to feature an active rear spoiler, and it is the first in the BMW Group family to incorporate this technology. Integrated in the boot lid, the spoiler pops up automatically when the MINI Coupe reaches a speed of 80 km/h (50 mph). When the speed drops below 60 km/h (37 mph) again, a four-part control mechanism returns the spoiler to its rest position. It is also possible to operate the active rear spoiler manually, for example for cleaning purposes, using a button in the overhead control panel.

At higher speeds, the active rear spoiler reduces lift at the rear axle to improve aerodynamic balance and road grip. The active rear spoiler forms part of a precisely configured aerodynamic concept that also includes an innovatively designed roof spoiler. This roof spoiler is fully integrated into the styling of the helmet roof. It has an opening in the center which allows the airflow over the roof to be directed down to the rear window or, depending on speed, to the rear spoiler. This reduces rear lift and improves the driving dynamics of the MINI Coupe.

Also distinctive are the A-pillars and windscreen, which are more sharply raked than on the MINI. The resulting smaller frontal area makes an additional contribution to the aerodynamic properties of the MINI Coupe. Airflow has been optimized to an even greater extent on the range-topping MINI John Cooper Works Coupe. The most powerful member of the Coupe line-up is fitted with a John Cooper Works aerodynamic kit as standard in a nod to its exceptionally dynamic performance capability.

Interior: clear emphasis of two-seated layout, generous storage capacity. The design of the MINI Coupe's interior also showcases the pure-bred character of a compact sports car. In typical MINI style, the Coupe also has a large Center Speedo and a tachometer positioned directly behind the steering wheel, and the standard-fitted sports seats offer outstanding lateral support through quickly-taken corners. The colors of the interior, meanwhile, also help enhance concentration on the road ahead. Regardless of the combination of upholstery variant, trim elements and Color Lines chosen by the MINI Coupe owner, the interior color remains Carbon Black. An anthracite roof liner is also part of the standard specification.

Oval recesses in the roof liner create extra headroom. This exclusive design element lends further emphasis to the two-seat layout and hunkered-down, sports-orientated form of the MINI Coupe body.

The absence of a rear seat bench creates new scope for offering spontaneous driving enjoyment for two people while at the same time catering for the requirements of an active and varied lifestyle. The adaptable, 9.8 cubic feet (280 liters) of cargo volume in the boot is extremely flexible. With a large, high-opening tailgate, and a 14 inch-wide and approx. 8 inch-high through-loading system that can also be opened from the driver's or passenger's seat, the MINI Coupe offers cargo-carrying possibilities that will suit a wide range of needs, whether for daily routine, leisure or motoring for two.

The car's practicality is further enhanced by larger door bins, three cupholders and a cross-rack behind the seats. Meanwhile, the variable luggage compartment cover eases stowage of particularly bulky items or sports equipment. When the boot lid is opened, the rear section of the three-dimensional cover is also raised. The entire cover can be detached, if required.

An exclusive selection of colors and materials. The range of exterior paint finishes for the MINI Coupe body comprises nine colors. The car's roof is painted as standard in a contrasting color; customers can choose from Jet Black, Pure Silver and ? exclusively for the MINI John Cooper Works Coupe ? Chili Red. This gives the extravagant roof shape a particularly striking appearance. The only exception here is the Midnight Black body paint variant, which can be combined with a roof in Jet Black. Model-specific Sport stripes are available as an option. On the roof these come in body color, on the front and rear ends in the contrasting color.

The MINI Coupe is kitted out as standard with 15-inch, 16-inch or 17-inch light-alloy wheels, depending on the variant. Further light-alloy wheel designs in these formats can be ordered as an option.

Special piping-style sports seats and the upholstery color Toffy ? unique to the Coupe ? add even more scope to the customary MINI variety of seat and upholstery variants. Added to which, the black sports seats can also be specified in Punch Leather with beige-colored perforations. Trim strips can be ordered in any of six variants, and a Chili Red option is also offered for the MINI John Cooper Works Coupe. A choice of five Color Lines is available; the Polar Beige variant can also be combined with beige-colored exterior mirrors. What's more, customers can explore the additional, extremely exclusive interior design options offer by the MINI Yours range

Instantaneous power. The latest generation of four-cylinder gasoline engines. The MINI Coupe can be ordered with the most powerful gasoline engines in the brand's arsenal. Outputs range from the 121 hp of the MINI Cooper Coupe, to MINI Cooper S Coupe (181 hp), all the way up to the MINI John Cooper Works Coupe, a thoroughbred athlete producing 208 hp.

In the MINI Coupe, engine power is converted into pure driving fun more directly and comprehensively than ever. Cutting-edge drive system technology ensures that the engine's output and torque are generated with exceptional efficiency ? and experienced with great intensity by the driver. Instantaneous power development delivers impressive sports performance, while high elasticity and optimum gear ratios guarantee unbeatable agility in mid-range acceleration.

The MINI Coupe takes modern route in delivering an extra dose of urban driving fun. At the same time, the brand's racing genes are clearly reflected in its character. Customers in the US can choose from a selection of three engines for their MINI Coupe. All the model variants carry the Cooper name in their designation.

Traditionally, this familiar badge has been a sign of outstanding sporting ability and a nod to the brand's association with legendary Formula One designer John Cooper. This is the man who smoothed the passage of the classic Mini into race competition. Its racing exploits have long since passed into legend, reaching their zenith with three overall victories in the Monte Carlo Rally.

The MINI Coupe has also been created with winning in mind. Indeed, the MINI Cooper Coupe, MINI Cooper S Coupe, MINI John Cooper Works Coupe offer a blend of fuel consumption and driving fun that is unmatched.

The MINI Cooper Coupe, MINI Cooper S Coupe are available with an optional six-speed automatic gearbox as an alternative to the six-speed manual item fitted as standard across the Coupe range.

The standard-fitted six-speed manual gearbox sets a new benchmark in the segment with its short shift travel and impressively precise action. A ready-to-drive weight of 44.8 kilograms (98.7 lb) makes this the lightest gearbox of its kind. The MINI Cooper S Coupe comes with a new, self-adjusting clutch. Automatic readjustment ensures that the pedal feel you expect from a MINI is there to be enjoyed over the car's full service life. Plus, the synchronization of the gears is further optimized by a carbon coating for the clutch linings. The ratios have been set to ensure that each gear change takes place at the optimum engine speed and thus allows a rapid progression of the acceleration process.

A six-speed automatic gearbox with Steptronic function can be ordered for the MINI Cooper Coupe and the MINI Cooper S Coupe as an option. With its exceptionally short shift times and direct "target gear" finding capability on downshifts, the automatic likewise showcases the sporting character of the MINI Coupe. The driver can also change gear manually using the selector lever, while shift paddles on the steering wheel are available as an additional option.

MINI Cooper Coupe: high in energy, low in CO2. The new member of the MINI family displays a contagious spirit and verve ? even in entry-level form. The four-cylinder gasoline engine in the MINI Cooper Coupe produces 121 hp from its 1.6-liter displacement, reaching this maximum output at 6,000 rpm. Peak torque of 118 lb-ft is on tap at 4,250 rpm.

The secret behind the engine's lightning-fast response to every movement of the accelerator pedal lies primarily in the fully variable valve management system unique in the MINI segment. This throttle-free load control technology is based on the VALVETRONIC system found in BMW engines and optimizes both the engine's responsiveness and its fuel consumption and emissions.

Within fractions of a second, the valve management adjusts the stroke and opening period of the intake valves to the amount of output required, with the camshaft acting on the valves through an additional intermediate arm, and not directly through the cam follower. The pivot point of this additional intermediate arm is infinitely adjustable by an eccentric shaft controlled by an electric motor. The throttle butterfly ? used to control load in conventional engines ? is fitted solely as an emergency backup and for diagnostic purposes. Under normal circumstances it remains fully open at all times to minimize flow losses in the intake manifold.

The MINI Cooper Coupe uses this instant pulling power to deliver impressive acceleration and races from rest to the 0-60 mph mark in just 8.3 seconds. Its top speed stands at 127 mph. This performance contrasts with average fuel consumption in the EU test cycle of 5.4 liters per 100 km and CO2 emissions of 127 grams per kilometer.

MINI Cooper S Coupe: unbeatable efficiency, intoxicating driving fun. The likewise 1.6-liter power unit under the bonnet of the MINI Cooper S Coupe comes with fully variable valve management as part of a package of technology and also features a twin-scroll turbocharger and gasoline direct injection. In this type of charge system the ducts of two cylinders are combined with one another in the exhaust manifold and in the turbocharger. This construction leads to instant development of charge pressure. Meanwhile, direct injection allows extremely precise amounts of fuel to be fed into the cylinders, promoting clean and efficient combustion. The combination of turbocharging, direct injection and variable valve management produces maximum output of 181 hp at 5,500 rpm and established the four-cylinder unit in the MINI Cooper S Coupe among the world's highest rated engines.

Maximum torque of 177 lb-ft is on tap as low down as 1,600 rpm, and can be raised to 192 lb-ft for a short time using the Overboost. This function serves up additional pulling power to ensure particularly dynamic acceleration. The MINI Cooper S Coupe dashes from 0 to 60 mph in just 6.5 seconds, and its top speed stands at 142 mph. These performance figures team up with average fuel consumption in the EU test cycle of 5.8 liters per 100 km and CO2 emissions of 136 grams per kilometer.

MINI John Cooper Works Coupe: an extreme athlete in peak form. The exceptionally sporty MINI models bearing the John Cooper Works badge hold a very special status within the model range. Features such as engine technology derived directly from motorsports mark them out from the norm. The MINI John Cooper Works Coupe adds another top-class athlete to the MINI ranks. A 208 hp four-cylinder engine with twin-scroll turbocharger and direct injection imbues it with unrestrained power, giving it the tools to do what MINI does best ? entertaining drivers ? even better.

The 1.6-liter engine under the bonnet of the MINI John Cooper Works Coupe is largely the same as the unit powering the competitors in the MINI CHALLENGE Clubsport series. Numerous technical details originate directly from developments in motorsports, including the aluminum cylinder block and bearing mounts, reinforced pistons, a particularly high-strength cylinder head and lightweight crankshafts. The exhaust valves are sodium-filled to provide the extra cooling required by a turbocharged engine, and the intake camshaft features infinite phase adjustment. The modified turbocharger develops even greater charge pressure than the engine in the MINI Cooper S Coupe. The model-specific exhaust system can be identified from the outside by its polished stainless steel twin tailpipes, while its resonant soundtrack ? best sampled from inside the cabin ? adds a distinctive extra layer to the extreme sports machine's character.

The engine generates peak output at 6,000 rpm and produces maximum torque of 192 lb-ft; the Overboost function pushes this figure up to 207 lb-ft for a short time. The instantaneous power development ensures imposing acceleration, the MINI John Cooper Works Coupe rocketing from a standstill to 60 mph in 6.1 seconds on the way to a top speed of 149 mph. And yet average fuel consumption in the EU test cycle is kept at an unusually low level for cars in this output class; the MINI John Cooper Works Coupe burns just 7.1 liters of fuel per 100 km and has CO2 emissions of 165 grams per kilometer.

The ultimate in go-kart feeling. Suspension and driving experience. A level of chassis quality that is unmatched in the small car segment gives the new MINI Coupe the handling flair you would expect from the brand. The precise Electric Power Steering, the standard-fitted DSC stability control system, powerful brakes and measures designed specifically to optimize torsional rigidity ensure the MINI Coupe driver can enjoy the ultimate in go-kart feeling.

The suspension system effortlessly translates the power of the MINI Coupe engines into a fun-filled and agile driving experience, delivering the sharp handling typical of MINI that also contributes to a high standard of active safety. With the suspension technology closely matched to the engine power, the MINI Coupe provides the most intensive expression to date of the trademark MINI driving experience, or go-kart feeling. Even when pushed hard in dynamic driving situations, the outstanding quality of the suspension, control arms, steering and brake system ensures confident control of the vehicle at all times.

The MINI Coupe owes its agility and sure, safe handling not only to front-wheel drive and superior suspension technology, but also to a low center of gravity, a long wheelbase measuring 97.1 inches, and a front and rear track width of 57.4 inches and 57.8 inches respectively. The Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) system is fitted as standard on the MINI Coupe. With its extensive functionality, it adds to the safe and sporty handling qualities.

Suspension technology: specific to MINI and unique in its segment. Using top-quality components and a design that draws on the engineering expertise of the BMW Group, the MINI range offers suspension quality that is unique in this segment. In the MINI Coupe too, the suspension technology ? as ever designed specifically and exclusively for the MINI ? plays a big part in giving the vehicle its typical MINI character. This MINI-specific development approach is also responsible for the excellent balance between ride comfort and cornering stability, as well as the remarkably low levels of torque steer even when accelerating hard.

MacPherson strut front suspension provides excellent wheel location, while the sophisticated kinematics of the multi-link rear suspension maintain optimal road grip at all times. The longitudinal control arms are made of aluminum, which cuts down on weight. Anti-roll bars reduce body roll to a minimum and make their own contribution to safety and agility. The suspension components have been meticulously adapted to the sporty personality and specific weight balance of the MINI Coupe and the body calibration on all model versions emphasizes their sparkling handling characteristics. The optional sports suspension has firmer damper settings and comes with sturdier anti-roll bars front and rear. For a "hard-core" racing experience, the accessories range offers John Cooper Works suspension, with a 10 mm drop in ride height, ultra-firm damping and anti-roll bars whose diameter is even larger than on the sports suspension package.

15-inch alloy wheels are standard specification on the MINI Cooper Coupe, with a 16-inch version standard on the MINI Cooper S Coupe. The MINI John Cooper Works Coupe is specified with 17-inch, weight-optimized alloy wheels in John Cooper Works Cross Spoke CHALLENGE styling. In the US, the Cooper S and John Cooper Works Coupe models are equipped with standard run-flat tires, so it is possible to continue driving, subject to certain restrictions, even after a complete loss of tire pressure. The run-flat tires are optional for the MINI Cooper Coupe model. All models feature a Tire Pressure Monitor System as standard.

Guaranteed precision: Electric Power Steering and powerful brakes. The compelling handling is also partly down to Electric Power Steering (EPS), which gives the MINI Coupe excellent directional control in all situations. This electromechanical power steering system is particularly effective at soaking up steering shocks and other vibrations.

The integrated active return function ensures that the steering wheel always returns precisely to the center position when straightening up after a turn. The speed-dependent power assist reduces the steering effort required from the driver when parking and maneuvering and, conversely, reduces the amount of assist at higher speeds to improve road feel and directional stability. The Electric Power Steering also helps to make the MINI more energy-efficient since its electric motor only operates on demand, when steering assistance is actually required. No power is consumed during straightline driving or steady-state cornering.

The MINI Coupe's Electric Power Steering is also available with variable power assist levels. A Sport Button on the center console is standard on all MINI Coupe vehicles, allowing the driver to choose between the basic power assist level and a second mode designed to support a more performance-minded driving style. This second mode requires more steering input but provides a more responsive steering feel. Simultaneously, pressing the Sport Button also alters the response characteristics of the accelerator, which immediately delivers sharper, sportier reactions.

The MINI Coupe's model-specific braking system provides powerful, fade-free deceleration, even under the hardest braking. The vented front brake discs have a diameter of 11 inches on the MINI Cooper Coupe, 11.6 on the Cooper S Coupe, and 12.4 inches on the MINI John Cooper Works Coupe. Optimal braking performance at the rear is provided by 10.2 inch discs (MINI John Cooper Works Coupe: 11 inches).

DSC Dynamic Stability Control as standard: optimized traction with DTC and EDLC. The standard-fitted Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) system, with extensive functionality, is a benchmark in the MINI segment. DSC makes an important contribution to safe and agile handling. In very dynamic driving situations and on slippery surfaces, the system can selectively brake individual wheels and reduce engine power to prevent a front- or rear-end slide at the earliest possible stage. The system includes integral anti-lock braking (ABS), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Cornering Brake Control (CBC), Brake Assist and Hill Start Assist.

Dynamic Stability Control is combined as standard on the MINI John Cooper Works Coupe, and optionally on all other model versions, with the Dynamic Traction Control system (DTC) with integrated Electronic Differential Lock Control (EDLC). DTC, which can be activated at the push of a button, raises the response thresholds to make it easier to move off on loose sand or snow, allowing the drive wheels to spin slightly in the process. DTC also allows a degree of controlled wheel slip under very sporty cornering. A longer push of the button fully deactivates the DSC system.

With DSC in "off" mode, the EDLC system responds instead, in relevant situations. EDLC offers enhanced performance characteristics when accelerating hard out of corners and tight bends by precisely controlled braking of a drive wheel that is starting to spin. This improves traction without negatively affecting the understeer/oversteer characteristics of the car. The result is smoother, faster cornering.

Stiff body, ideal weight balance. The MINI Coupe is equipped with extra bodyshell stiffening at the rear, which means that the overall torsional rigidity of the body is even higher than on the MINI. In conjunction with the extra-sturdy side sills, this optimizes the occupant protection provided by the strong passenger cell. At the same time the high level of body stiffness on the MINI Coupe also enhances agility and precise handling control.

At the front of the vehicle, too, there are special body stiffening measures, along with innovative features to improve pedestrian protection. The resulting weight distribution has major benefits for vehicle dynamics. The slight increase in front axle load rating compared with the MINI increases traction at the front wheels and helps to ensure that the engine power is effortlessly translated into sporty acceleration.

The range of safety equipment fitted as standard includes front airbags and head-thorax airbags, which are integrated into the sides of the seat backrests and protect the head, upper body and hip area from injury in the event of a side-on impact. Added to which, both seats come with three-point inertial reel seat belts including belt force limiters and belt tensioners.

Extensive standard equipment, high-quality options. The MINI Coupe comes with an impressive standard specification, further enhancing the driving fun available on board and underlining the car's premium character. The equipment list includes air conditioning, speed-sensitive power steering and Park Distance Control with rear sensors, which makes parking and maneuvering that much easier. Height-adjustable sports seats, electrically adjustable exterior mirrors and the radio MINI CD audio system with MP3-compatible CD player and AUX IN connection are also included as standard.

High-quality items of optional equipment ? some of which are unique in the small car segment ? allow customers to further enhance the comfort and individuality of their MINI Coupe. The list of options includes front fog lamps, a rain sensor with automatic headlamp activation, and Adaptive Headlights (in conjunction with optional xenon light) which adjust the tilt of the headlights to the car's steering angle and speed in order to optimize illumination of the road through corners. Xenon headlights can also be specified with black housing. Among the other options available are Comfort Access, an on-board computer, automatic climate control, heated seats, a multifunction steering wheel, an automatically dimming rear-view mirror and exterior mirrors, an armrest, the storage package, and preparation for a rear luggage carrier rack. Customers can also dip into the selection of exclusive options available from the MINI Yours range and ultra-sporty John Cooper Works options and accessories.

Among the items owners can have fitted to maximize on-board entertainment and make communication even easier are the Harman Kardon sound system and USB audio interface. The MINI Visual Boost radio and MINI navigation system link up with a 6.5-inch high-resolution color display in the Center Speedo and the Bluetooth hands-free system with USB audio interface. This allows customers to access an even more extensive range of functions supported by a connected mobile device, including audio streaming via Bluetooth, album cover artwork display on the on-board monitor and innovative office functions. The maps for the MINI navigation system are stored on the car's built-in Flash memory device and can be updated via the USB interface.

Unrivalled entertainment and communications functions from MINI Connected. Customers specifying the MINI Visual Boost radio or MINI navigation system will also be able to access internet-based services inside the car courtesy of MINI Connected. MINI-specific functions can be uploaded via a MINI Connected software application and operated using the joystick, steering wheel buttons and on-board monitor. Adopting the familiar MINI display and operating logic, MINI Connected enables comfortable, simple, secure and intuitive control of all functions while minimizing driver distraction. The MINI Connected App gives owners of an Apple iPhone access to innovative functions designed to enhance driving fun, entertainment and social networking.

Among the functions no other model in the MINI segment can offer are use of the Google local search and Google Send to Car services, as well as reception of user-definable RSS news feeds, the content of which is displayed on the on-board monitor and can be read out using the optional voice output function. MINI also allows in-car usage of web-based social networks. MINI Connected customers can receive Facebook and Twitter posts inside the car, display them on the on-board monitor and have them read aloud by the optional MINI Connected voice output function. In addition, current vehicle data and details of the driver's destination or the outside temperature can be added to preformatted text messages and sent out directly from the car using either service. With the Dynamic Music function, meanwhile, every journey in the MINI can be enjoyed to the soundtrack of specially arranged songs, whose rhythm and sound volume adjust to the driving style at any one time.

2012 Porsche 911 Turbo S "Edition 918 Spyder"

Stuttgart. Today is the day that Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, puts on sale the 918 Spyder super sports car with its innovative plug-in hybrid drive. Production development is proceeding apace in the wake of the outstanding customer response to the concept car unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show 2010. Thanks to its unique hybrid technology, the 918 Spyder is estimated to consume a mere three litres of fuel per 100 kilometres (94 mpg imp.) based on the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC). Its V8 engine delivers more than 368 kW (500 hp), assisted by two electric motors with a total of at least 160 kW (218 hp). The 918 Spyder is available for immediate order priced from 645,000 Euro ? subject to VAT and country-specific charges.

To ensure a 918 Spyder?s exclusivity, the two-seater is limited to no more than 918 units. The earlier a customer orders his vehicle, the earlier it will be delivered, as production is initialised in the same sequence in which orders are received. Production of the 918 Spyder is scheduled to commence on 18 September 2013 ? 9/18 in US date convention ? in a quasi manufacturing operation at Porsche?s main plant in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen. Delivery of the initial vehicles will commence in November 2013.

The design?s DNA is derived from the Carrera GT and Porsche 917 sports car as well as the RS Spyder and is very closely modelled on the 2010 concept car. Unlike the concept car, however, the production version of the two-seater, based on a carbon fibre-reinforced plastic monocoque, features a manual roof system with removable roof panels that can be stowed in the front luggage compartment.

The 918 Spyder is driven by a unique type of plug-in hybrid system. It comprises a high-revving V8 engine with a displacement exceeding four litres and output of more than 368 kW (500 hp). The mid-engine power unit is based on the racing engine of the successful Porsche RS Spyder, which provided impressive proof of its efficiency with its multiple victories in the Michelin Green X Challenge in the American Le Mans Series, the Le Mans Series and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Power transmission to the rear wheels is by means of a compact, seven gear Porsche-Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK). This is complemented by two electric motors ? one each on the front and rear axle ? with a joint mechanical output of at least 160 kW (218 hp). This configuration offers an innovative, variable all-wheel drive with independent control of the propulsion force on both axles. The energy storage unit is a liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery that can be charged from a conventional domestic power socket, delivering a range in excess of 25 km (16 miles) in the NEDC on purely electric power. The charging time depends on the country-specific mains network, being approximately three hours in Germany, for example. A quick charging option is planned to reduce charging time yet further.

The 918 Spyder?s combined total fuel consumption in the NEDC (ECE-R 101) is anticipated to be 3.0 l/100 km (94 mpg imp.), equating to CO2 emissions of 70 g/km (112 g/mile). Despite that, the super sports car offers performance of the highest order. It accelerates from a standing start to 100 km/h (62 mph) in a maximum of 3.2 seconds and has a top speed of more than 320 km/h (199 mph). That means the Spyder will be able to manage a lap of the N?rburgring Nordschleife in less than seven minutes and 30 seconds ? trumping the Porsche Carrera GT, which needs seven minutes and 32 seconds. The top speed on purely electric power is 150 km/h (94 mph). To shorten the time the customer has to wait for the 918 Spyder, Porsche is offering everyone placing an order the exclusive opportunity to acquire a 911 Turbo S ?Edition 918 Spyder?, also limited to no more than 918 units. Visually, both inside and out, the special edition is inspired by the 918 Spyder's characteristic individual features. That includes the distinctive acid green features such as the specific and part-embroidered model logos and seams, the instrument cluster needles, the specific PCM screen and illuminated door entry guards. The limited edition badge on the glove compartment lid bears the same number as the 918 Spyder the customer has ordered. The 911 Turbo S ?Edition 918 Spyder? can also be ordered in the same colour. Both the technology and basic equipment of the new 911 Turbo S ?Edition 918 Spyder? are based on the 530 hp (295 kW) 911 Turbo S. In the case of the special edition, the already comprehensive standard equipment is complemented in particular by an enhanced leather interior, a special instrumentation version and additional carbon elements both inside and out. The 911 Turbo S ?Edition 918 Spyder? is being offered to coincide with the commencement of sales of the 918 Spyder with deliveries starting in June 2011. The Coup? version of the special edition costs 173,241 Euro in Germany and 184,546 Euro as a Cabriolet ? including VAT and country-specific equipment items respectively.

Husqvarna Motorcycles – road bikes and off-road bikes with a long tradition.

Husqvarna Motorcycles is an international manufacturer of off-road and on-road motorbikes. It was originally founded in Sweden and has been part of the BMW Group since 2007. Since this time, the innovative technological capabilities of Husqvarna Motorcycles have been dynamically strengthened, and on a lasting basis, through its alliance with BMW Motorrad.

The motorcycle brand with the Scandinavian roots, based today in Cassinetta di Biandronno in the northern Italian province of Varese, boasts a tradition of motorcycle manufacturing which stretches back more than 100 years, making Husqvarnas the oldest motorcycles in the world with an uninterrupted production record. In ten decades of company history, Husqvarna Motorcycles has been able to achieve outstanding success in international off-road racing, with 82 World Championship titles to its name to date. In road racing, Husqvarna was successful in the 1920s and 1930s, so it was a logical step to set about expanding today's product range in the on-road arena once again.

Husqvarna re-entered the road bike segment in 2011 with the presentation of the Husqvarna Nuda 900 and Husqvarna Nuda 900 R models. These models, developed in collaboration with BMW Motorrad, likewise display Husqvarna's typical pure, athletic and dynamic styling. The brand most recently provided a look ahead to further extension of the model range with the Husqvarna Concept MOAB, Husqvarna Concept Strada and Husqvarna Concept BAJA studies.

With the new Husqvarna TR 650 Strada and TR 650 Terra, Husqvarna Motorcycles continues its model offensive that began last year with the successful launch of its road models.

Husqvarna TR 650 Strada and TR 650 Terra – two powerful characters for on-road and off-road riding.

With the new TR 650 Strada and the new TR 650 Terra,
Husqvarna Motorcycles extends its program of highly agile, dynamic single-cylinder motorcycles by adding two attractive new machines.

Their slim, wiry stature and masculine, dynamic design gives the new Husqvarna TR 650 models a progressive, light and energetic look, whether as the "Terra" version for light terrain or as the "Strada" version for asphalt-based motorcycling fun. At the same time, the two new Husqvarna models are clearly set apart from their competitors with their outstanding overall package of handling and riding dynamics as well as in terms of design. Along with their relatively low weight, a powerful single-cylinder engine and an agile, directionally-stable chassis they embody the passion of motorcycling and the fascinating world of Husqvarna Motorcycles.

Outstandingly powerful single-cylinder engine in the BMW Motorrad mould.

In terms of engine technology, the TR 650 Strada and TR 650 Terra rely on the tried and tested basis of the G 650 GS by BMW Motorrad. However, this liquid-cooled single-cylinder power unit with two overhead camshafts and
652 cc was extensively modified and its performance significantly enhanced for use in the two new Husqvarna models. It delivers 43 kW (58 hp) at
7,250 rpm, developing its maximum torque of 60 Nm at 5,750 rpm. For those countries with graduated licencing, there is also there is also a reduced power version on offer as an ex works option with 35 kW (48 hp) at 7,250 rpm and 54 Nm of torque at 5,750 rpm.

The single-cylinder engine has been modified with a wide range of measures to hone it for its athletic, dynamic purpose. In addition to various other improvements, such features as a modified electronic fuel-injection system, altered camshafts and an increased compression ratio due to modified piston and cylinder head geometries ensure powerful propulsion, high revving and spontaneous response. Nonetheless, with its exhaust system in stainless steel including two rear silencers and a closed-loop 3-way catalytic converter, the engine provides not just an especially high level of single-cylinder riding fun but also excellent fuel efficiency and environmental compatibility.

In conjunction with the constant-mesh 5-speed gearbox, the powerful and high-revving single-cylinder engine in the Husqvarna TR 650 Strada puts in an especially impressive performance on country roads, while a full torque curve and spontaneous response also allow supreme off-road excursions over light terrain on the TR 650 Terra.

Robust, high-quality chassis for riding fun both on and off the road.

The new Husqvarna models TR 650 Strada and TR 650 Terra are able to rely on an agile chassis based on a split-backbone tubular steel frame with remove-able rear frame and front beam bolted to the engine.

Front guidance and suspension duties are dealt with by a torsionally-stiff 46 millimetre upside-down telescopic fork. The rear wheel is controlled by a torsionally-stiff dual swing arm made of pentagonal steel tubing in conjunction with a centrally-mounted rear shock with progressive linkage. In keeping with its use on asphalted roads, the Husqvarna TR 650 Strada has cast wheels made of aluminium while the TR 650 Terra reflects its off-road suitability with a centrally-mounted rear shock with progressive linkage. Generous suspension travel of 190 millimetres at the front and rear makes for easy handling and a high level of directional stability combined with excellent comfort and off-road qualities.

TR 650 Strada fitted as standard with ABS. TR 650 Terra with ABS as an optional feature.

To match the dynamic performance available, the brake system consists of a single-disc brake at front and rear which offers supremely solid stopping power. The new Husqvarna TR 650 Strada is fitted as standard with ABS, while the new Husqvarna TR 650 Terra can likewise feature ABS if this is ordered as an ex works option. The ABS is disengageable for special uses.

Masculine shaping in dynamic, Italian design.

To reflect their high level of riding dynamics, the lines of the new Husqvarna TR 650 Strada and TR 650 Terra have been given a particular dynamic emphasis in terms of design. Although they embody masculine athleticism, their clearly-defined shaping nonetheless conveys a sense of agility and lightness. While the light-alloy cast wheels in the TR 650 Strada embody the active riding character of a road bike, the spoke wheels combined with a high fender on the front wheel reveal the dual sport ambitions of the TR 650 Terra.

The two new Husqvarna models have a robust, masculine appearance through selective use of black-coated chassis elements such as frame and swingarm. In addition, red side trim elements for the TR 650 Terra, and a black side panel for the TR 650 Strada, in combination with the Strada's low white front fender, lend a unique appearance to each.

The bikes' high aspirations in terms of riding dynamics are underscored by the light-gray sand-cast engine cases, providing a fascinating technical contrast in conjunction with the hallmark Husqvarna red cylinder head. Further accents are provided the anodized-silver upside-down forks and the end caps of the twin exhausts, which proudly exhibit the Husqvarna logo.

The new Husqvarna TR 650 Strada and TR 650 Terra are manufactured at the Husqvarna Motorcycles plant in Cassinetta di Biandronno, northern Italy.
