BEAUTY Cool As A Cucumber

Use cucumber and its innumerable benefits for beautiful skin, inside out.

Cucumbers have always been associated with cooling properties, but do you know why the green fruit-cum-veggie is famous for it? With 90 per cent water content, cucumber is primarily a water body and its internal temperature is about 20 degrees cooler then the air temperature. Little wonder then that its natural refrigerating and refreshing effects have found a way into face washes, creams, scrubs and under-eye gels.
The cucumber plant was a popular skincare ingredient even in ancient times. Its thinly cut slices have been used as natural eye pads to soothe tiredness and puffiness and its juice blended with other kitchen-cupboard ingredients for cost-effective face masks and toners.

Eye Soother
Calm and condition the delicate skin around your eyes with cucumber as it helps in reducing dark circles. The most clichéd, but also the most effective stress-buster, this is especially comforting after late-night parties or a busy week at work spent in front of a computer screen. You will feel the tiredness in your eyes being washed away by the moist cucumber in a matter of minutes.

Skin Food
Cucumber contains vitamin C and caffeic acid, both of which soothe skin irritations. Its hard skin is rich in fibre and a variety of minerals, including silica, potassium and magnesium, all of which are excellent for your complexion’s health. “It astringent quality is best suitable for oily and combination skin and it also protects the skin from sunburn.

Home Recipe
Blend cucumber juice with lemon for toning and with tomato juice for cleansing oily skin. Cooling and toning are cucumber’s twin benefits. For dry skin, blend grated cucumber with a paste of ripe banana, but make sure to use only organic cucumber for all your beauty treatments.
Buy dark green cucumbers with a bumpy surface, as they are most fresh and cool.
